If you’re reading this, then you’re probably thinking of ways to monetize your website. All well and good. One way is thru Google AdSense. But if you’re thinking of getting rich fast thru this route, then may be you should stop reading now. It’s definitely not a get rich quick scheme. But in the long run, if you keep at it, it will amount to something. Especially if you manage to drive traffic into your site. Still interested? Read on.
How does it work?
GoogleAdSense is a program allowing bloggers or website owners to make some cash by displaying Google Ads on their website. Once they sign up, Google sends them a code to put on their website which results in a banner that site visitors can click.
There are two ways to earn:
1) Impressions– based on the number of page views of pages or posts of these ads; and
2) Clicks– based on how many people click on the ads.
Who can sign up for this?
Bloggers. If you use Blogger/Blogspot, use the Monetize tab to set up and manage your Google AdSense account. If you use WordPress, you have to visit the AdSense website to sign up. Google will send you the code but you can also use a plugin to help you out regarding placement. (Take note: that if your wordpress account is for free, then you can’t make use of AdSense).
How much can I earn?
This depends on the ads that are posted. Apparently, some ads are worth more money once you click on them. The amount depends on the traffic you get, the keywords the site visitor searched for, your niche market, choice of ad unit size, the number of visitors who click on an ad, and even your location. Apparently, advertisers are willing to pay different amounts to reach customers in different regions. Customers in the so called “tier 1” countries; USA, Canada, UK generally command higher prices. On an average, a website serving an average of 3 pages per visit, each with 2 ad units and an impression cost per thousand impressions (CPM) of $1 would therefore earn $6 per 1000 visits.
Can I click on my own ads to make more money?
Nice try but apparently you can’t. Google has a way of figuring out everything and clicking on your own ads or encouraging family and friends to do so won’t give you more money. In fact, this may even result in you being banned.
Hope this helps!
